The Best Robot Hoover
The best robot vacuum will clean and vacuum your floors with no effort. It also leaves clean. Its price is surprisingly low and features that are high-end (such as dirt detection) are pluses.
Examine your robot's brush frequently for tangled debris and hair. Wash them when necessary. Some models will automatically empty their dust bin on board into a larger bin in the base, which decreases the amount of fine dust released into the air.
1. Roomba Q5 Pro
The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive cousin the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we've examined. They have motors that are top of the line and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. Like other premium iRobots (including the most powerful model), they use smart mapping to produce precise floorplans and avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. They also feature a feature called carpet boost that increases the robot's power when it sees the presence of dirt on the carpet in order to get it cleaned up quickly.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests of floors with no carpet They are also adept in cleaning dog hair. However, they do have a few flaws however, which prevent them from being our first option. For instance, the Q5's navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks and can't navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. Also, it doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of a room.
It's still a good deal for those whose home or office has a lot of unfinished floors and you want to save some money. Plus, it's very quiet and you can use it while you're at work, or going to school. The only thing it doesn't have that you won't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. And it's less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on very well and can't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 does have an auto-emptying dock, however. If you're in need of it, the mopping pad can be changed for a wet one in just a few seconds.
2. iRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its smart cleaning maps and nimble navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in tackling larger particles, like pet hair. It also has self-emptying dustbins with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robotic hoover for carpets, but it's not as good as other hoovers when it comes to deep cleaning.
This high-performing mop and vacuum combo uses advanced sensor technology to avoid obstacles and pet waste and it also learns your home's layout over time for more efficient cleaning. You can alter its cleaning schedule and customize zones with the well-designed app. Its battery life is average when compared to other models.
When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to take off and extend its mop. This helps prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is perfect for getting under furniture that is low and along baseboards. It's not as effective on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
In the course of testing, X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to clean an entire home and had 66 percent of its battery remaining. It also did a good job cleaning a variety of rooms and floors with different flooring types, including certain area rug. Its obstacle detection was excellent and it was able to avoid fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles of cables.
It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after vacuuming this feature, which we've not seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
With an elegant circular design that appears more like a normal Roomba rather than the boxy units This robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most appealing looking in our reviews. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also the most intelligent. It has advanced features like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads on its own).
It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that scored an exemplary 10/10 in our testing due to a mix of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.
The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is simple to use. It comes with a simple mobile app interface that integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only real drawback is that it's an eerily noisy device, which can be a problem if you run it in the morning before work or in the evening as you attempt to sleep.
It's also a bit expensive however, not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally impressive and attractive. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful however, it's going to cost you more and make more noise.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot vacuum and mop. It has a number of features that are advanced and will make you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine like Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically empty the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, and cleans and dries the mop pads.
The smart robot uses an array of LIDAR and structured light to map out the floor plan and detect obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection however, it wasn't foolproof in our testing and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.
Its vacuum has a high suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to finish the job. It also comes with an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for various areas of the house based on how dirty the areas are.
If you own a larger home, you should consider selecting a robot that comes with spot or zone cleaning mode. This allows you to tell the robot which area of your house needs to be cleaned by using the app or voice command. A stairway mode is useful if you own a number of furniture. For best budget robot vacuum recharge functions and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off could be extremely useful.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is more intelligent than its price would suggest. It is a great job vacuuming, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad, which uses a reciprocating motion that does a better job cleaning than the other mop cleaners for robots we've tested. It's self-sufficient too, with a fully-featured app as well as a self-emptying, washable base.
The well-designed iRobot app guides you through a mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, set up the perfect spot for cleaning or sort out your rooms with the most dirt for better performance. The app also provides access to many features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
It is also able to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a strong suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for hair of pets. It also has the ability to set up a spot cleaning that intensely cleans a localized area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are shaped like cute little eyes. It does a good job vacuuming, but is more prone to be caught by low thresholds and is louder than the other top robot vacuums we've examined. It also has an app that is less intuitive and a small base station that does not double as a bin to empty.
