The Best Robot Hoover
The most effective robot hoover will clean and mop without requiring your attention. It leaves your floors spotless. Its price is affordable and its high-end features (such as dirt detectors) are positives.
Make sure you regularly inspect your robot's brushes for hair that is tangled and large particles and clean them as required. Certain models also automatically empty the dust bin on board and then deposit it in an additional bin located at the base. This reduces the amount fine dust that is released into the air.
1. Roomba Q5 pro
The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've test. They have motors that are top of the quality and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. Like other iRobots with premium features (including the top model) they utilize smart mapping to produce precise floorplans and avoid household obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also have Carpet Boost, a feature that increases its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.
Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our bare floor tests They're also particularly adept in cleaning pet hair. There are some issues however, which prevent them from being our top choice. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is that its navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's also prone to getting stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very well during our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera to look around corners.
It's still a good value for those whose home or office has a lot of bare floors and you want to save money. It's also very quiet and you can use it when you're at work or going to school. The only thing it lacks that you can't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on very well and can't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 does have self-emptying docks, however. If you need to mop, the mopping pad can be swapped for a wet one in minutes.

In the course of testing, X30 Ultra was the most efficient robot vacuum/mop which could clean an entire home, with 66 per cent of its battery remaining. It also did a good job cleaning a variety of rooms and floors with mixed flooring types, including some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was great and it was able to avoid fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles of cables.
It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature that we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.
3. Roomba X40 from iRobot
This mop and vacuum combination features a sleek, circular design that appears much like a Roomba unit than the boxy units of the rivals. It's among our most attractive robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also happens to be its smartest, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).
It's also the sole robot vacuum or mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to the combination of modern sensors, including a restructured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.
Like other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, with a simple mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only issue is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This could be a concern in the mornings before work or during the night when you are trying to sleep.
It's also a bit costly however, not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing to put up some more volume and a little more cost, this is a very efficient two-in-one device that should please almost everyone.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features to help you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner like Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically empty the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, as well as washes and drys the mop pads.
The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and detect obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its premium competitors. It also has a camera mounted on the front to detect hazards in real-time, although this wasn't quite 100% foolproof during our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.
Its vacuum cleaner has an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with an attribute known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the house depending on how dirty the areas tend to be.
For larger homes it's worth looking for a model that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean one particular area of your house using the app or via voice commands. If you have a lot of furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. Additionally a recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuum take over exactly where it left off is ideal for busy families.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you might imagine from its price. It is a great job vacuuming, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with a single pad that uses a reciprocating motion, which cleans better than most of the other robot mop cleaners we've tried. It's self-sufficient too, with a full-featured application and a self-emptying, washable base.
The iRobot application is designed to guide you through an exercise in mapping, which gathers information on your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, arrange an area for cleaning or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to improve performance. The app comes with a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
It is also able to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has strong 8,000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for hair of pets. You can also set up a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans a specific area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are shaped like cute eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, but it is more likely to be stuck on low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums that we've test. It also has a less intuitive app and a tiny base station that isn't able to double as a bin for emptying.
